Before becoming a Community Care participant, Anne Kiekhofer was
afraid that a move to a nursing home was in her future. It saddened
her to think she would have to move out of her home and not live
with her husband Tom.
Anne is a quadriplegic due to having multiple sclerosis for more
than 30 years. Over the years, her condition has worsened, but it
hasn’t slowed her down.
With Community Care’s support and help from Tom, Anne continues
to live at home and has an active role in her community. She spends
time with people she enjoys, all while receiving excellent health
care.
Anne sees her interdisciplinary team at Community Care’s Adult
Day Health Center several times a week. The team of a physician,
registered nurse, therapists and social worker are able to monitor
and adjust her care to meet her changing needs. This proactive approach
to health and long-term care has made Anne’s life “the
best it can be,” she says. She calls Community Care “a
Godsend.”
Anne and Tom recently took a cruise to Alaska that included several
land tours. “I’d go again in a hot minute,” says
Anne. Sure, there are many things I can’t do, but look at all
I can do,” she adds. |
